HOURS OF OPERATION
The laboratory operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Limited laboratory service is available on official holidays.
AMA will repeat a test at no charge whenever the result does not correlate with the physician’s clinical observation. Please call our Client Service Department to request a repeat determination, referring to the specimen accession number on the report in question. AMA laboratory routinely stores serum specimens for 2 weeks, urine specimens for 7 days, lavender specimens for 7 days. Other specimens are kept for shorter time periods according to their stability. Repeat testing may be performed depending on the test and analyte requirement for stability.
The Client Services Department is able to assist you in the following areas:
- Obtaining verbal and/or preliminary results
- Ordering additional tests not requested on the original requisition
- Requesting information on specimen requirements and handling procedures
- Requesting duplicate reports
- Faxing Reports
- Facilitating technical testing and medical inquiries
- Facilitating requests for supplies and/or pick up of specimens
By marking the [] FAX box on the requisitions, we will fax results upon completion of testing and review. The original report will follow by regular mail, courier, remote printer, and if available, through the internet. HIPAA regulations require fax machines and remote printers are placed in a secure and private are to protect health information.
- CRITICAL (“PANIC”) VALUE REPORTING
All panic values, indicating that prompt medical attention is needed, will be called to the physician as soon as the laboratory has verified and reviewed the results. Results are called to the requesting physician or, if he or she is not available, to the physician on call or any authorized designated representative of the ordering physician. The Laboratory Medical Director determines the critical values and a copy is available upon request.
Our couriers are trained to provide pickup and delivery service on a daily basis. We will schedule a daily pickup time that is consistent, convenient and appropriate for your office routine. Saturday and Sunday services are also available, if required. Lock boxes are provided in situations where late specimen pickup is desired to assure the routing of all specimens to the laboratory where office closure may prevent personal delivery or pickup. Current regulations require lockboxes to be locked and secure. Please notify us of unlocked or vandalized lockboxes immediately.
Supplies necessary for the collection and processing of clinical and anatomic pathology specimens are provided according to Federal and State regulations and guidelines. You will be furnished with a starter kit that contains supplies and customized test request forms. Our Field Service Representatives will demonstrate the proper collection, handling and storage of specimens prior to pick up by the courier.
AMA has Field Service Representatives (FSR’s) that are available to assist you in training your staff in specimen collection and handling techniques. They are also available to help train your staff on filling out the requisition properly to ensure the correct test or tests are performed.
- STAT TESTING TURNAROUND TIME
Many of the tests in this manual can be performed on a STAT basis (if medically necessary). Results are typically available within 4 hours of notification. Due to logistical difficulty of routing STAT specimens to the laboratory during difficult traffic situations, the STAT requisition should include the physician’s phone number, pager or contact information, in case the patients home phone number in case the reporting may occur after office hours. Results are called and faxed as soon as they become available. The original report will follow, using the normal route of reporting.
- PROFESSIONAL MEDICAL CONSULTAION
Advanced Medical Analysis, LLC pathologists are available for medical and technical consultation on laboratory test results and/or clinical conditions. Our laboratory manager and technical staff are also available, whenever needed, to resolve problems and/or answer questions.
