The quality of the information-derived from a laboratory test depends greatly on the proper collection and handling of the specimen submitted for analysis. Correct patient preparation, specimen collection, specimen packaging and the transportation are essential factors in obtaining accurate test results.

Included in this directory are the most frequently ordered tests and panels. If you are not able to find a test you are interested in please call (800) 862-5655 or email cs@amalab.net and one of our Customer Service Representatives would be happy to assist you.

Specific specimen requirements for each determination, including sample size, are provided in your AMA Test Directory. To avoid additional expense and inconvenience to the physician, the patient, and the laboratory, please make sure you have submitted at least the quantity specified for the test you wish performed. We will attach the notation “Q.N.S.” (Quantity Not Sufficient) to reports on samples that are too small.

The patient’s name and/or identification code must appear on every specimen tube or container submitted to the laboratory. All specimens must be submitted in a sealed plastic bag that is provided by AMA. All specimen containers must be properly sealed, as leaking containers pose a serious health hazard to those handling the containers.
